Like many of the greatest sportscars ever made —Lancia Stratos, Renault 5 Turbo, Mercedes CLK GTR—, the Porsche 911 GT1 belongs to the pantheon of the all-time great ‘homologation’ cars, a limited run of road cars sharing the DNA of their competition counterparts.

Unlike what its nomenclature or appearance may hint at, the 911 GT1 is not related to the Porsche 996, but more closely connected to the 962 racecar’s underpinnings. Squeezing 536hp of a tiny watercooled 3.2L powerplant, the GT1 achieved 100kmph in 3.9 seconds, a respectable figure in pre-Veyron times.

This particular car was bought by Tomini Classics in the early years of the collection in 2012, but never reached Dubai —it was bought and sold through a partner in Germany for a small fraction of what it would have been worth today —next to our black CLK GTR, it’s one of the cars we most regret not holding on to!
