By the mid-1980’s, it was becoming clear that the beloved R107 series was in need of a replacement. The 1970’s steel-and-chrome styling was replaced with an innovative, angular design featuring multiple suspension, steering and drivetrain improvements, along a myriad of creature comforts. The result was the R129 series, the most advanced and luxurious SL to date. Its timeless styling, capable performance and superior engineering made it an icon of the 1990’s and a universal symbol of success.
The mid-1990’s SL500 is equipped with the robust M119 engine, used by Mercedes-Benz in Le Mans. This particular car was originally sold in California, eventually making its way to Germany in 2017, where it was converted to a European look (lamps, speedometer). Presented in a conservative Polar White on grey, this car currently serves as a daily driver in our collection.
